Ward's Pond and Emerald Necklace connection

Ward's Pond lies north of Jamaica Pond along the Emerald Necklace route toward Olmsted Park. Reaching it requires leaving the immediate pond loop and crossing or following connecting paths, with wet and uneven conditions possible.

Parking immediately around the pond is limited and mostly legal street parking. Transit, walking, or cycling can be easier during warm weekends and events.

Boston parks generally close 11:30 p.m.-6 a.m. Boat rentals, boathouse, nature programs, restrooms, concerts, and seasonal operations have separate schedules.

Restroom access is concentrated near the boathouse and staffed program areas and can be seasonal. Do not assume a facility is open along every part of the loop.

General pond, path, fishing access with required license, and public programs are free unless posted. Boat rentals and some programs cost separately.

Much of the pond loop is developed, but grades, roots, road crossings, shore edges, winter conditions, and unpaved segments vary. Start near the boathouse for services.

Leashed dogs are allowed under Boston park rules. Keep pets controlled around runners, wildlife, fishing lines, boats, and narrow shoreline paths.

The loop, boats, fishing views, wildlife, and ranger programs work for families, but the pond is more than 50 feet deep and has no casual swimming access.
