Lotta Fountain

The Lotta Fountain is a historic dog-friendly drinking fountain near the Esplanade paths west of the Hatch Shell. Treat it as a small landmark and water stop, not a dependable human drinking fountain or restroom.

The Esplanade has very limited direct parking. Transit, walking, and cycling are usually best; nearby garages and meters are paid and event traffic can close approaches.

The Charles River Reservation is officially open sunrise to sunset. Playgrounds, boating, restrooms, concessions, events, and the Hatch Shell use separate schedules.

Seasonal public facilities serve the busiest Esplanade areas, but coverage is not continuous along the river. Locate an open restroom before a long walk.

General park, path, playground, lawn, and public-art access is free. Boating, rentals, parking, food, and ticketed events may charge.

Major river paths are paved, but bridge approaches, slopes, construction detours, crowds, snow, ice, and waterfront edges vary by segment.

Leashed dogs are allowed under DCR rules. Keep pets out of playgrounds, athletic use, planted areas, and water where posted, and clean up waste.

The Playspace, Stoneman Playground, lagoons, docks, lawns, and boats offer strong family options. Fast bicycles and exposed water edges require close supervision.
