Lafitte Greenway

The public greenway is intended for daily transportation and recreation; developed facilities, playgrounds, courts, lighting, programs, and adjacent businesses use separate schedules.

Use legal neighborhood parking only if necessary. The greenway works best as a bike, walk, transit, or point-to-point route; do not leave valuables visible in vehicles.

Choose a trailhead or cross street. North Claiborne, Broad, Norman C. Francis, Bayou St. John, and the Mid-City end lead to different amenities.

Reliable always-open public restrooms are limited along the corridor. Recreation facilities and businesses have independent access and hours.

The trail, public landscapes, art, basketball, and ordinary recreation are free. Programs, rentals, food, and events may charge.

The paved shared-use path is generally accessible, but street crossings, construction, drainage, crowds, and temporary detours require attention.

Leashed dogs are allowed; keep them short at crossings and around bikes, runners, playgrounds, courts, gardens, and food areas.

Short sections near playgrounds, FitLot, art, and Bayou St. John suit families. The full corridor includes busy street crossings and fast bicycle traffic.

The greenway is itself a car-free connector and intersects bus, streetcar, bikeshare, neighborhood bicycle, and walking routes.

This is a transportation corridor as well as a park. Keep right, signal passing, supervise children at every street crossing, and check current construction or extension detours.

Check New Orleans' hourly heat index, lightning, severe-storm and heavy-rain alerts, flash-flood risk, tropical weather, air quality, and current facility notices. Pavement, play equipment, levees, and exposed riverfront paths become dangerously hot, while low trails and streets may flood quickly.
