Fort Harrison State Park

Indiana DNR describes Fort Harrison as a year-round park but does not publish one current gate schedule on the property page. The Visitor Center is open daily 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.; programs, the museum, inn, golf course and other facilities keep separate schedules.

Enter the main park at 6000 North Post Road and use the official property map to choose parking for the Visitor Center, Delaware Lake, trailheads, picnic areas or sledding hill. The dog park uses a separate Fall Creek Road entrance and cannot be reached by car through the main gate.

Use 6000 North Post Road for the main gate. Choose the intended trail, lake, visitor facility or picnic area before entering because the property is large; the fee-based dog park is isolated north of Fall Creek at 8725 Fall Creek Road.

The official map marks restrooms at developed areas, and recreation buildings include restrooms. The Visitor Center is the most predictable staffed option during its daily 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. schedule; remote trails should not be assumed to have nearby facilities.

Daily admission is $7 per noncommercial vehicle with Indiana plates, $15 per out-of-state vehicle, or $2 per person age 5 and older arriving on foot or by bicycle. Reservations, the inn, golf and the separately gated dog park can cost extra.

DNR identifies Harrison Trace as an asphalt multi-use trail and says parts are wheelchair accessible, while warning that the route includes hills. Natural-surface trails, wet sections and ravines vary; use the official map and contact the property for a route-specific accommodation.

Pets must be attended and kept on a leash no longer than six feet, and ordinary pets are prohibited in public buildings. Off-leash use is limited to the separately gated membership dog park, whose passes and seasonal areas follow their own rules.

The paved Harrison Trace, Visitor Center, picnic areas, fishing access and winter sledding offer different family outings. Match the route to the group's ability, supervise near Fall Creek and ponds, and confirm any staffed or weather-dependent activity before leaving.

Indiana DNR does not document a park transit stop. Check IndyGo's current trip planner for the 6000 North Post Road gate, and do not assume a route near the former fort reaches the chosen trailhead inside this large property.

The Saddle Barn is temporarily closed in 2026 while DNR seeks a concessionaire. Check the park alert and event pages before traveling for horseback riding, museum access, a program or another separately operated facility.

Check National Weather Service Indianapolis forecasts and current DNR alerts. Heat, thunderstorms, high wind, flooding, mud, snow and ice can affect Fall Creek, natural-surface trails, fishing and sledding independently.
