Kualoa Regional Park

Day-use areas follow posted City park hours, with typical overnight closure from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Campground gates and permits use separate schedules; follow current entrance signs.

Free lots serve the long beach and lawn, but weekend, event and camping demand can fill the closest sections. Choose Campground A, Campground B, the beach or Mokolii viewpoint before entering.

The park stretches along Kamehameha Highway. Campground A is on the Kaneohe side; Campground B and the most direct Mokolii-facing lawn are farther along near the fishpond landscape.

Comfort stations and outdoor rinse showers serve developed beach and campground areas. Conditions and opening can vary, so identify the next facility before walking the shoreline.

Day use, beach access, views and ordinary picnicking are free. Camping requires a paid advance permit; commercial tours, rentals and food cost separately.

Honolulu's accessible beach program identifies beach wheelchairs and mats for Kualoa. Reserve or confirm equipment and the current mat location before relying on it.

Follow posted City pet restrictions; beach, campground and protected cultural or wildlife areas may prohibit dogs. Do not assume an ordinary leash overrides a signed exclusion.

Broad lawns, shallow-looking beach water and dramatic views suit picnics, but currents, wind, sharp reef, boats and an unfenced shoreline require close supervision.

TheBus travels Kamehameha Highway, but service is less frequent than urban Honolulu and the park is long. Check the exact stop and last practical return trip before visiting without a car.

Do not confuse this free City park with the adjacent commercial ranch. Mokolii is offshore and attempting to wade or paddle there depends on tides, currents, skill, permissions and ocean conditions; the viewpoint is the safe default.

Check current Oahu weather, ocean conditions and operator alerts. Extreme UV, heat, heavy rain, flash flooding, high surf, wind, currents, jellyfish and water-quality notices can close trails, beaches, boats or facilities independently.
