Bonaventure Cemetery

Open to the public daily 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Registered after-hours activities may be approved between 6:00-8:00 a.m. or 5:00-8:00 p.m.; ordinary visitors should not rely on those extended periods.

Enter at 330 Bonaventure Road and follow cemetery traffic signs. Parking and driving occur along an active cemetery road network; never block a service, grave, gate, aisle, or maintenance vehicle.

Download the official map before entering and identify the section, named lane, and grave or landmark. The grounds exceed 100 acres, so the main entrance pin is not sufficient for finding individual sites.

Ask at the administrative building or visitor information point about current restroom availability. Do not assume facilities are distributed throughout the cemetery.

Ordinary respectful public visitation is free. Commercial tours, organized groups, special events, after-hours access, and filming can require registration and fees.

Visitors can drive the principal road network, but older lanes, roots, grass, monuments, curbs, and individual grave approaches vary. Confirm the route to a specific section before leaving the vehicle.

Treat the grounds as an active cemetery, not a recreation park. Follow posted animal rules and contact the cemetery before bringing a pet; qualified service animals remain governed by applicable law.

Older children interested in history, art, trees, and local stories may find the visit meaningful. Adults should set expectations for quiet, respectful conduct and close supervision around roads, monuments, and private family activity.

The cemetery is east of central Savannah and is easiest to navigate by car or a registered tour. Confirm current transit and rideshare pickup before relying on a return from the entrance.

Bonaventure remains an active cemetery. Ghost, paranormal, treasure-hunt, scavenger-hunt, loud, athletic, or disruptive activities are prohibited; organized groups of ten or more and tours for hire must register.

Check heat index, thunderstorms, mosquitoes, tropical weather, and Savannah alerts. Tree canopy helps, but the large grounds require water and a plan to return to the entrance before closing.
