Reservable Shelter 1

Reservable Shelter 1 is a mapped gathering structure at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park; reserved events and setup may limit casual use even while the surrounding park remains open.

Enter from Wonderwood Drive and pay at the gate, then follow signs to beach access, lake, splash park, campground, trails, or a reserved pavilion. The park is large; choose the destination before entering.

Open daily 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. during daylight-saving season and 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. during standard-time season. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing; 6:00-8:00 a.m. entry requires a prepaid early-bird or annual pass.

Restrooms serve developed beach, campground, lake, and pavilion areas, but individual buildings and concessions can keep shorter schedules than the gate.

$5 per car with up to six people or $3 per pedestrian or bicyclist from 8:00 a.m. to closing. Camping, cabins, rentals, reservations, early-bird access, and annual passes cost separately; verify current tax and rates.

The city lists accessible amenities and an adaptive kayak launch. Beach sand, natural trails, campsites, lake edges, and surf access still vary substantially by route and conditions.

Pets are permitted only in designated areas, must be attended, well behaved, and on a leash eight feet or shorter. Follow signs around beach, water-play, campground, and natural areas.

The seasonal splash park, lake paddling, playground, beach, camping, rentals, picnics, and easier trails offer several family visit styles. Match the activity to swimming ability, heat, surf, lightning, and supervision needs.

The splash park normally operates from the first weekend in May through the last weekend in October, 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., but closes temporarily for maintenance or lightning within ten miles and has no lifeguards.

The oceanfront location is most practical by car. If using bicycle or rideshare, account for the entrance fee, long internal distances, equipment, and a reliable return before gate closing.
