East Rock Park

Use College Woods at Cold Spring and Orange Streets for the playground, ranger station, and lower trails; use Davis Street and Summit Drive for the summit route; or choose Rice Field and other mapped entrances for sports and trail access.

Yes, Cedar Playground near the south end of Rice Field has a seasonal spray pool. Confirm the City's current splash-pad status before visiting because operation depends on season, maintenance, and weather. Swimming is prohibited in the Mill River. The Wilbur Cross High School pool may offer separate free summer public hours, but it is not general river or park water access and should be checked directly before a trip.

The 112-foot Soldiers and Sailors Monument crowns East Rock's summit and honors New Haven residents who died in four nineteenth-century wars. It was erected in 1887 and is visible across much of the city. Reach the summit by trail, including the steep Giant Steps route, or use the Davis Street gate when the seasonal summit road is open. Interior monument tours occur only on announced dates; the overlook remains the main everyday destination.
