Washington Park

Denver urban parks are open daily 5:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. Buildings, restrooms, water features, attractions, events, and seasonal recreation use separate schedules.

Limited free lots and curb parking surround the park; busy mornings and weekends fill quickly, so transit, bike, or walking often work better.

Use Franklin Street for the boathouse and Smith Lake, or choose the edge nearest the playground, recreation center, gardens, or Grasmere Lake.

Restrooms are associated with the recreation center, boathouse, seasonal portalets, and permitted events; building hours differ from park hours.

Park, lakeside paths, playgrounds, lawns, and gardens are free; recreation programs, rentals, reservations, and some activities cost separately.

Major paved loops are accessible, but the park is large and very busy; use the closest entrance and watch for fast bikes and runners.

Dogs must remain leashed except in designated off-leash facilities elsewhere; keep pets out of playgrounds and active fields.

Playgrounds, lakes, gardens, and open lawns make this family friendly, though the loop can be crowded and water edges require supervision.

Local buses and neighborhood bike routes provide practical access; there is no adjacent rail station.

The internal loop mixes walkers, runners, bikes, strollers, and road crossings. Stay predictable, supervise children near both lakes, and check event impacts.

Check Denver's hourly temperature, UV index, wind, lightning, air quality, snow and ice. High elevation sun is intense, afternoon storms form quickly, and exposed lakes, lawns, hills, and river corridors can feel much colder or hotter than nearby streets.
