Railroad Park

Railroad Park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., 365 days a year. Rangers patrol the park and a security system monitors it around the clock, but visitors must leave by closing.

Use 1600 First Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35233. The park extends from 14th to 18th Streets along the railroad tracks, directly across from Regions Field.

Use metered street parking along First Avenue South or within three to four blocks. Do not use spaces reserved for neighboring businesses because vehicles may be ticketed or towed; meters are free after 6 p.m. and on weekends under the published policy.

Restrooms are at the 17th Street Plaza behind the Railroad Park Foundation office, near the ranger station and café. They are more central than the park's outer lawns and trail ends.

Yes. Visitors may bring ordinary outside food and use the lawns, but glass, outside alcohol, and all grilling or cooking are prohibited. Catered food, tents, tables, heavy furniture, electrical access, or a guaranteed gathering area require a park reservation and approved vendors. For a simple family picnic, bring a blanket and pack out trash; The Meadow is the park's recommended lunch area for visiting school groups.

No splash pad or swimming facility is listed at Railroad Park. Although water covers about 30 percent of the design, its lake, rain curtain, bio-filtration wetlands, ponds, and streams are landscape and stormwater features rather than managed water-play areas. Stay on paths and bridges and keep children out of the water. Railroad Park does have two playground areas; use a separately operated Birmingham aquatic facility for swimming or splash play.
